How to read betting odds

Decimal odds include your stake

Multiply the stake by the decimal price to get the total return on a winning bet. The return includes the original stake; it is not all profit.

For example, NGN 1,000 at 2.40 returns NGN 2,400, including NGN 1,400 profit. These are example figures, not an offered price.

Fractional and American odds

Fractional odds show profit relative to stake. At 7/5, a winning NGN 500 stake earns NGN 700 profit and returns NGN 1,200 in total. That is decimal 2.40.

American +140 means NGN 140 profit for a winning NGN 100 stake. At -150, a winning NGN 150 stake earns NGN 100 profit. The latter converts to decimal 1.6667, rounded to 1.67.

Implied probability is not a forecast

Divide 1 by the decimal price and multiply by 100. Odds of 2.40 imply 41.67%; odds of 1.50 imply 66.67%. A short price can still lose.

Adding the implied probabilities of every outcome gives the market total. If it exceeds 100%, the excess is called the overround. It is not a promise of the bookmaker's realised profit.

Compare like with like

Compare the same selection, settlement period and market line. A 90-minute win price is not interchangeable with a to-qualify price.

Accumulator prices multiply: 1.80 × 1.90 × 2.10 = 7.182, or 7.18 rounded. Read accumulator rules before combining selections.
