Chinwe puts every operator through the same checklist: signup, KYC, deposit, settlement, withdrawal. If the OPay button hangs, she'll tell you.

About Chinwe

Chinwe Okafor runs brand reviews and payment testing at Bets.ng. She tests every operator end-to-end: signup time, KYC friction, how deposits route through OPay, PalmPay, Paystack and First Bank USSD, how fast a live bet settles, and how long it takes for a ₦25,000 withdrawal to land in a GTBank account at 11pm on a Sunday. Before Bets.ng she spent three years in product at a Nigerian mobile-money fintech. She writes our payment-methods guide and updates it every quarter.

“Fintechs ship glossy apps. Operators ship whatever works on the day. My job is to find the difference and write it down.”
— Chinwe Okafor

Career

Chinwe leads brand reviews and payment testing. Before Bets.ng she ran product for three years at a Lagos-based mobile-money fintech where she owned the KYC and deposit UX for more than eight million customers. She has the rare mix of knowing what operators claim and what payment rails actually deliver on a Sunday night when CBN queues are bad.

She holds a BSc in Banking and Finance from Covenant University (2016) and an MSc in Financial Technology from the University of Lagos (2019). Her masters thesis on mobile-money friction in Nigerian retail is still cited.

At Bets.ng, Chinwe is the author of our payments hub, all six payment-method deep dives and every brand review section on deposits, withdrawals and KYC. She also wrote the internal test protocol that every Bets.ng brand review follows — the same N5,000 deposit, N25,000 withdrawal, three live bets and one support message, run against every operator quarterly.

A typical week

  • Monday: re-runs deposit tests against one brand using a fresh device and a fresh bank profile
  • Tuesday: logs withdrawal timings from the Saturday tests, updates the live tracking sheet
  • Wednesday: payments editorial — writes or updates one payment-method page
  • Thursday: KYC audit — re-verifies one brand's ID upload flow, screenshots the actual steps
  • Friday: support ticket round — one real question to each of the six brands, logs response times
  • Saturday: deposit stress test — N500 through each of OPay, PalmPay, Paystack, USSD, looking for failures

Credentials

  • BSc Banking and Finance, Covenant University (2016)
  • MSc Financial Technology, University of Lagos (2019)
  • CFA Level 1 (2020)
  • Nigerian fintech product management (3 years)

Off the record

Chinwe runs half-marathons (Lagos City 2023 personal best 1:58), keeps a Samsung A54 and an iPhone 13 side by side for cross-platform testing, and has a strong and unfashionable opinion that USSD is still the single best payment rail for bettors under N10,000.
